Service Details
The primary care mental health service is provided by 5 NHS teams in partnership with three voluntary sector organisations - Leeds Counselling, Touchstone and Community Links. Teams offer assessment and short-term psychological treatment and support for anyone over the age of 17 in Leeds. There is no upper age limit to access the service.
The service is for people with common mental health problems such as:
• Depression
• Anxiety and panic attacks
• Stress
• Difficulty coping with life events
Treatment and support can be tailored to individual needs:
•advice and support to use self help materials
•access to computerised cognitive therapy courses
•stress management courses
•evidenced based talking therapy sessions (CBT) that focus on techniques and strategies to overcome common health problems
•referral to longer term support if needed
The service is part of the national Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) programme - see www.iapt.nhs.uk for more details.
The five NHS teams cover the following areas:
East Leeds: Harehills, Garforth, Kippax, Crossgates and Seacroft
North East Leeds: Chapeltown, Chapel Allerton, Meanwood, Little London, Roundhay, Moor Allerton, Alwoodley and Wetherby
North West Leeds: Hyde Park, Burley, Headingley, Horsforth, Cookridge, Rawdon, Yeadon, Guiseley, Otley and Bramhope
South Leeds: Morley, Rothwell, Beeston, Middleton and Belle Isle
West Leeds : All GP practices in Armley, Bramley, Wortley and Pudsey
