A Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Forum is being set up for every NHS Trust and Primary Care Trust (PCT) in England. They will be made up of local people and have new powers. They will play an active role in health related decision making within their communities and will have a number of primary roles, which include:
Obtaining views from local communities about health services and make recommendations and reports
Making reports and recommendations on the range and day to day delivery of health services
Influence the design of and access to NHS services
Providing advice and information to patients and their carers about services
Monitoring the effectiveness of local Patient Advice and Liaison Services (PALS).
In Leeds Voluntary Action Leeds (VAL) is co-ordinating the setting up and the future running of the PPI Forums. There will be several forums covering the PCT, the Leeds Mental Health Trust, and the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust. Each of the forums will have its own co-ordinator employed by and based at VAL.
